Since 1917, the Education Department at UCLA Extension has provided staff development, in-service, and professional outreach to practitioners at all levels of education—preschool, elementary, secondary, adult, and higher education. The Education Department partners with UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies to create a community of learning and action. Its members are scholars, practitioners, teachers, agenda setters, and public intellectuals who research, teach, and prepare practitioners and researchers in learning and information fields in an environment of multiple constituencies. The shared goal is to enhance the life experience of all individuals through inquiry, professional practice, and policy that lead to equitable access to quality education.

Current Job Posting: University Mentors for Induction-Clear Credential Program

University Mentors for the UCLA Extension Teacher Induction-CA Clear Credential Program (Online) in any of the following teacher credential areas:
  • Education Specialist (all special education credential types)
  • Multiple Subject
  • Single Subject
Specific Instructor Duties
  • Complete online UCLA Extension Mentor training
  • Conduct observations of candidates either in person or virtually online using observation protocols based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession
  • Provide and coordinate support, coaching, and resource availability for teacher participants as they implement an individual learning plan over a two academic year induction period; participating teachers receive an average of not less than one hour of support per week.
  • Provide feedback to teacher participants regarding selected assignments and in online discussions that are integral to online induction program courses (delivered through the Canvas learning management system).
  • Use and model for participating teachers culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with Program Director, Program Representatives and Online Course Managers in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a California Clear or Lifetime Credential in the subject area the teacher induction candidates that you would be mentoring (Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist)
  • 3 - 5 years successful teaching experience
  • Able to use own computer to communicate and conduct observations virtually with the teacher induction candidate.
  • Able to use video conferencing tools (e.g., Skype or Zoom) for weekly, synchronous communication.
  • Travel using own transportation to school sites within the Los Angeles area during school hours (Mon-Fri) is optional.
  • Advanced degree in an education-related field, from an accredited institution
  • Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills
  • Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area of your teaching credential(s).
  • Recognized leadership or authority in the subject matter of your teaching credential(s)
  • Demonstrated experience as a mentor, coach, or provider of professional development for other teachers.  Prefer experience as a supervisor or mentor for student teachers or newly-hired teachers.
Special Conditions of Employment
 
University Mentor Compensation:
$1300-$1500 per assigned teacher candidate, per academic year
