Description

UCLA Extension’s Legal Programs area is seeking experienced legal professionals to serve as instructors in its ABA-Approved Paralegal Training Program. The program combines understanding and analysis of substantive law with practical assignments that develop paralegal competencies. Our instructors include judges, commissioners, attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals. Courses are offered daytime (9:00 am – 12:30 pm) and evening (6:30 pm to 10:00 pm) in Westwood or Downtown Los Angeles.

The program is currently accepting applications to teach the following subject areas:

  • Contracts
  • Criminal Law and Procedure
  • Real Property
  • Torts
  • Civil Procedure
  • E-Discovery/Legal Technology
  • Business Organizations and Securities
  • Legal Research, Analysis and Writing

 

Specific Instructor Duties

  • Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director  
  • Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format  
  • Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform
  • Evaluate student achievement and assign grades
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner
  • Communicate with Program Director, Program Representatives
  • Participate in Instructor Meetings twice per year
  • Stay current regarding the legal profession and amend course materials to maintain relevance, rigor and currency

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of experience in the legal profession
  • Subject matter expertise
  • Understanding of the practical skills paralegals need to effectively and competently contribute to a successful legal team and ability to design learning activities that develop such skills
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion and enthusiasm for teaching along with a commitment to continued professional growth as a teacher and professional
  • Experience working with or as a paralegal(s)
  • College-level teaching experience helpful, but not required
  • Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
